SURFING IN THE MALDIVES
Sun, sand and surf, a thousand ‘Robinson Crusoe’ islands, massive lagoons with different depths and infinite shades of blue and turquoise, dazzling underwater coral gardens; a perfect natural combination for the ideal tropical surfing holiday destination.
The Maldives experience a similar surf season to that found in Indonesia. The best waves can be experienced from March to October, with the biggest swells likely to occur in June/July/August.
The surf throughout the Maldives generally ranges in size from 4-8 feet, however bigger days have been experienced. A great verity of reef breaks exist ranging in intensity from quite mellow and enjoyable shred able walls to ganglier hollow sucking dry pits. There is something for everyone when you surf the Maldives, it is possible to escape the crowds and enjoy some of the warmest most pristine water you have ever experienced.
Live- aboard
Due to location of the dive sites it is not viable to surf all the spots staying in one island resort. Surfers now make use of live- aboard to surf the different spots found on North and South Male' atoll. This will be new experience for the surfers and have the chance of surfing as many spots as one likes.
Touring on boats allows total flexibility, maximizing your surf time. Wake up to perfect waves at sunrise, followed by hearty breakfast, another surf and maybe sample some of the best fishing in the world. Lunch is on the deck - it could be that huge fish you caught in the morning. Delivery to the line up by dingy after lunch maybe!
Pure Vacations have contracted with our Australian surf partners a number of quality and experienced surfari boats with surf guides to offer British, European and Asian surfers the luxury of travelling the islands and secluded surf spots of the Maldives and beyond.
Sailing in North and South Male Atolls provides tranquil sailing conditions, short distances between breaks, your choice of lefts and rights, and your choice of intensity. Surf the best waves in this region - Honky's, Sultans, Ninjas, Lohifushi, Cokes & Chickens etc…
