GREY REEF SHARK

Habitat:
near coral reefs and in reef passages
Depth: 10-270m.
Size: up to 200cm.
Characteristics: a very common shark in the Maldives; it can be easily recognised by the white edged dorsal fin and the black edged caudal and pectoral fins. It is an inquisitive shark and it easily approaches divers even if, like all Requiem sharks, it must be considered potentially dangerous. It feeds on big bony fish that it attacks alone or in groups. The Grey Reef shark is a viviparous animal and it can give birth to one to six young.
