Size: up to 23cm.
Characteristics: it is a very common surgeonfish in the Maldive islands and also in the entire Indian Ocean except the Red Sea. This fish has a blue body with a yellow dorsal fin and a large white band under the black nose; its caudal fin is black and white. Like other Surgeonfish it feeds on algae (see the peculiar form of its mouth in the detail photo); sometimes large groups of this fish overwhelm the territorial damsel-fish guarding their private pastures of algae.
